Bexar County’s District Attorney, incumbent Nicolas “Nico” La Hood, has a challenger on the “blue ticket” this 2018 primary election. In 2017, San Antonio attorney Joe Gonzales, officially joined the race for the public office of Bexar County’s District Attorney. The challenger, Gonzales, who calls himself a lifelong Democrat, is a seasoned public official holding office in several capacities including experience as a prosecutor in Bexar County and in Harris County as well as a magistrate and municipal judge for the City of San Antonio.“My experience is what sets me apart from La Hood,” Gonzales says in an interview at local coffee shop.
Gonzales went on to explain his extensive experience from both the prosecutorial and defense side, as well as, extensive trial experience trying thousands of cases in court.
Gonzales was also very proud to be homegrown in San Antonio and has quite a history here. “I was raised in San Antonio’s westside in a single-parent home,” Gonzales shared proudly.
Gonzales received several terminal degrees from St. Mary’s University—on San Antonio’s westside—including his Law Degree.
In addition to finding his calling as an attorney at St. Mary’s University, he also met and married his college sweetheart.
"I've lived and grown here,” Gonzales said. “I've chosen to raise my family together here, with my wife, here in San Antonio, because we love this city. We love this community. So, this is one way that I can give back."
Early voting for the March 6th primary election starts Tuesday, February 20th and ends March 2nd.
